Sort of Senior Session August 13th, 2009 Last night I had a 'sort of' session with a senior. Alyssa is somewhere between a sister/niece type of relationship with me, and she's been 'apart' of our family for almost 8 years now, when she began by helping me one summer as a 'mothers helper' after Christopher was born. Then as I got more and more into photography she let me practice new techniques and ideas. And wow, here she is grown up and starting her senior year! *gasp* So since Alyssa could never be considered a 'real' client, it was only a sort of senior session, and sort of just a girls night out. ![]() I LOVE this picture of my girls! It's gonna go on my wall here at the house. ![]() We lugged my ottoman out by the cemetary. The results were some of my favorite senior pics ever. ![]() ![]() ![]() And then a late night stop to Rocky Top after it was too dark for portraits. I was pretty pleased with this shot at ISO 800 and the pitch black sky of 9:30. But the grain is too much with my rebel to do portraits any higher then ISO 200. I HATE GRAIN! I've decided I think I'm gonna have to invest in a camera body upgrade for my low lighting situations. Butterfly Season August 12th, 2009 I love the part of summer when you can watch the butterflies fluttering about the flowers. You just itch to run and try to capture one, even though you know already that they'll fly away before you get there. Still, I was lucky enough to capture these three little butterflies, even if only on my camera. ![]() And of course as soon as I got close to the log they were resting on they were off once more, leaving me to chase them down a path. ![]() Pretty Little Princesses August 11th, 2009 Last night some previous fairies came back for more dress up fun. Everyone has a bad day now and then, and I'm afraid the same can go even for a princess. I was so sure one little Princess had just the worst time ever getting photos last night and was so surprised to hear that she came home to say what a good time she had. *phew* ![]() I hinted around that I have some other anouncements coming, and those on facebook already know, but I'd like to do a seperate post on a non photo day about that, so it's still coming. I'm also working at redoing the website with new gallery photos, but that's taking longer than I anticipated. So, it's all coming, just slowly. Can't... hardly... move... August 9th, 2009 I laid down on the couch a few hours ago and haven't moved since. I'm not sure I can. Sure, my fingers can type. If I will myself strongly enough I can also reach over and use my mouse. It's been happening less and less (mouse use) as the hours go on. It's the result of another fun weekend at the Hattery House. For the life of me I couldn't figure out the exhaustion, until I began to open the blog and sort through what I had done. It all began innocently with a family run, then walk with Nataley, park trip, run, wrestling, jumping jacks, biking, and swimming (to include fun stunts on the high dive to impress my kids, and trips down the 55ft slide) So I'm not as young as I'd like to be... or rather, as young as I'd like to feel. My body is SORE. I think I tense up when going off the high dive and my muscles ache and beg for mercy as I come out of the water. It looks innocent enough from a distance, but actually being up on the top, attempting to run out and do something amazing, well it's easier said than done. Yes, I probably sound like a whimp. In the middle of my walk with Nataley we stalked... I mean visited the flowers at Mr. Gamble's garden. I didn't actually go 'in' the garden until he came out and asked why I hadn't (silly me, I feel strange going through someone's yard without permission). Nataley purchased a huge green pepper there and ate it on the way back. I just took pics. I tried growing dahlia's this year. Maybe its because it was year one. Maybe I didn't water correctly. Maybe I just don't care enough... but my dahlia's are an absolute joke to his. I think I'll stick with my cosmo's next year and just appreciate Mr Gamble's dahlia's instead. ![]() If I can, I will get some sleep now. Tomorrow I get to show a senior his pics, and then have a whimsy session in the evening. Perhaps more importantly right now though is the water that's just out of my reach. Drats. I'm gonna actually have to sit up now and move. Will post whimsy pics tommorrow late :) I also have a couple exciting announcements that I'm not quite ready to share yet, so stay tuned! Just Some Fun August 6th, 2009 Last night I was able to photograph Becca and even though we lost the light and went well past dark at the studio, I think she had a good time, and I know we got some incredible shots. Too many shots actually! It will be hard to narrow them down to a decent number for proofs. ![]() I love this first shot, if for no other reason then it's not a look I ever get to do around here. I felt like I was transported to the Outer Banks or something, but no, we were in Becca's back yard. ![]() Hope you enjoy the sneak peeks Becca! Just Some Fun August 4th, 2009 The kiddos and I hung out at the studio today as we awaited a couple of those 'need signature' packages - blech. I really think I have to change my addy to my home. I love my studio, but I don't like having to be there during weird hours just for a package. But while there I set the studio up for tomorrow's senior session. I have a new hi key set up and wanted to make sure everything was just so. ![]() ![]() Wow lookint at these pictures I think of two things. One, some day I will actually take a photo of my daughter with brushed hair, and two, they look so old! I no longer have any preschoolers, toddlers, and certainly no babies. My children are all all school aged now! Wow! Almost as soon as these pics were taken there was a surprise invasion of tween girls at the studio. They put on evening gowns and hats and boas and spent a couple hours dressing up and taking pics. They had an absolute blast, and I am absolutely exhausted! lol ![]() Evan's Sneak Peeks August 3rd, 2009 I love to photograph seniors (I know I've said that a zillion times before). They make work so fun. They (typically) want to be there, and want to have great results, and they have the ability to listen and take direction oh so well as comparred to, say a toddler ;) ![]() Evan made life even more easier for me as he happened to be a good looking and photogenic young man. My job is so fabulous sometimes. Thanks so much Evan for getting pics today! If you had at least half as much fun as a I did then I know you had a great time. ![]() Bad Jodi, Bad! August 2nd, 2009 I've been a very bad blogger this week, I know. It was a VBS thing. It lead to a severe case of insanity... I mean, exhaustion ;) and crankiness. :) But its over now, and I'm back to life and having a lovely Sunday with my family. Today I took the kids on a walk to the studio, and Nataley road her bike. I have a session in the morning - my first football player, awwwww - and wanted to get all the batteries charged up. Something about momma's studio - it's an absolute blast to the kids. From hide and go seek to football (no, it's not really that big. they're just very creative) they find the place so entertaining and I find myself giggling, or pulling my hair out, depending on what I am attempting to accomplish at the time. On the way home we made sure to walk by Mr Gamble's home. I was so proud of the dahlia's I've grown myself this year... and then I see his. Sheesh, mine as so pathetic compared to his glorious flowers adorning nearly every square foot of his yard. I find one bloom in particular to be quite intruiging - and it's probably a weed of some sort, but I thought it looked fabulous. ![]() Isn't that cool? Here's a few pics of the kiddos since I've deprived you all so long of the blog and my kids ;) ![]() |
